Arizona Youth Leadership Conference
8-12 JUL 2008
I am Richard E Minor,
Director of the Arizona Youth Leadership Conference (AZYLC) and the
coordinator for the Phoenix Chapter. The purpose is to recruit your
outstanding students for our program. You can access application and
other forms required by going to
WWW.AZYLC.ORG. I
hope you will be able to recruit both young men and women either
sophomores or juniors from your network that desire to be leaders in
their school or community.
The overall Youth Leadership
Conference concept is under the aegis of the National Military Order of
the World Wars (MOWW), a Patriotic Service Organization. They lead all
the other service organizations in Patriotic Education. They establish
general guidance for the organizations under them to include us. They
also gain our accreditation by the National Association of Secondary
School Principals and we continue to be approved each year to include
the 2007-2008 School year. Our general guidance is for 50% leadership,
30% American Heritage and the Constitution and 20% Free Enterprise. The
National MOWW Patriotic Education Committee has the responsibility to
evaluate our curriculum each year. Another principle goal is that the
students at the conference are 50% each of JROTC and non-JROTC and 50%
each of males and females. We do not
teach military subjects, nor do we wear uniforms.
Our leadership conference,
AZYLC, has been held annually previously in Prescott at ERAU and Yavapai
for 12 years and last 4 years at Eastern AZ College in Thatcher, AZ.
This year it will be at Cochise College in Douglas, AZ. It is a 5-day
conference (8-12 July 2008) for sophomores and juniors who are in
positions of leadership or who show the potential for attaining
leadership positions anywhere in the school or the community. This
program is at no cost to the school or the student. The costs are borne
by the Chapter sponsor. The six Chapters in AZ sponsor most of the
students. We have also had students come from TX,
Colorado and
New Mexico and expect more this year.
The application brochure and supplement and application forms outlines
our organization, objectives, curriculum and procedure for student
application to attend the AZYLC are on our website. This will be one of
their most enjoyable and challenging opportunities. I have had several
Boys State and Girls State attendees say they learned more in our course
than at State. The students are challenged in a peer operated
educational environment supervised and led by educators from all over
the state. The students will be divided into groups of 8-10 with a
student counselor (previous students, most are in college today) and in
a leadership chain of Senior Team Leader and then myself as the
Director. We have a staff of 10 other adults to assist us. I am willing
to talk to you via visit, phone, fax or email. I come away every year
believing that our country is in great shape if other students are
anything like the ones we work with at AZYLC.
We really
hope to get some of your home schooled students to attend!
Sincerely,
Richard E Minor, COL, RET, USA
Director of AZYLC and Phoenix Chapter Youth Leadership Coordinator

Dear Friends,
You have probably
heard about the new movie:
EXPELLED: No
Intelligence Allowed by Ben Stein. It is a documentary of
the one-sided focus of academia regarding the creationism-evolution
debate, and what happens to teachers and professors who dare to violate
the ban on discussion of creationism in the schools. This is an
extremely important film that is opening in 1000 theaters nationwide,
Friday, April 18.
We encourage you to
see it with your friends and children, and help open conversation about
what is happening within the institutional school settings. Visit
www.getexpelled.com to see the trailer, get resources, enter a
contest and understand the issues.
Try to go this
weekend and help give an affirmative message of support to those who are
concerned about the direction of our school system. In return, you can
be benefiting home education in Arizona. Collect your tickets and send
them to Covenant Home School Resource Center by May 2, and we may be
able to win $10,000 if we get the most. Collect tickets from your
friends and relatives who attend as well.
Send ticket stubs to:

Resource Center

collected tickets stubs from EXPELLED: No Intelligence Allowed wins the
cash! Tickets stubs must be in the mail and postmarked by MONDAY, MAY

Here's what one of our
member families thought of the movie:
I just wanted to tell
you that Mick & I just took the girls to see Expelled, & I wanted to
recommend it. It was insightful & challenging. It is a documentary, so
you may think it’s boring, but hang in there because the last half gets
more & more interesting. Anyhow, for what it’s worth, we liked it, & it
was a really good “springboard” for talking to the girls about so many
important things. I was surprised & impressed at the different issues
that were brought up…
Many
Blessings~
